The ACCA’s Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification will provide you with a solid foundation in finance and accounting. You will learn all the necessary technical skills and knowledge required to perform an accounting-support role. Whether you wish to start a career in finance, gain recognition for the skills and experience you have, or want to move on to a more senior position in accountancy, the CAT qualification will help you towards your career goal.

The CAT qualification is internationally recognised and highly regarded. To achieve CAT status you will need to complete a set of examinations and one-year's practical experience in the workplace. The CAT qualification is flexible and allows you to study at your own pace and achieve a work-life balance that suits you. It usually takes one and a half years to complete the nine CAT exams. And after passing the CAT exams, you will be able to gain exemptions from the ACCA Qualification and be one step closer to professional status.

The CAT examination scheme consists of:

INTRODUCTORY LEVEL

  • Paper 1: Recording Financial Transactions (Exempted with a Distinction in SPM for Accounts)
  • Paper 2: Information and Management Control

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

  • Paper 3: Maintaining Financial Records
  • Paper 4: Accounting for Costs

ADVANCE LEVEL

  • Paper 5: Managing People and Systems
  • Paper 6: Drafting Financial Statements
  • Paper 7: Planning - Control and Performance Management

OPTION MODULE (Any 2 Papers)

  • Paper 8: Implementing Audit Procedures
  • Paper 9: Preparing Taxation Computations
  • Paper 10: Managing Finances
INTAKE January, March, & July
DURATION 12 - 18 months
ENTRY REQUIREMENT Age 16 and above; SPM/O-Level or equivalent with 5 credits, including Maths (forecast results can be considered)
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English proficiency may be evidenced by:

  • A credit in SPM/ O-Level or equivalent or
  • Completion of an English Proficiency Programme at the College

  • A pathway to gaining a Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting

In a unique partnership between ACCA and Oxford Brookes University, A student will have the opportunity to study for a BSc. (Hons) in Applied Accounting whilst taking your ACCA exams.

A CAT graduate will gain exemptions from ACCA knowledge module. He has to sit for the skills module and after passing the skills module he can opt to complete a research and analysis project and gain an internationally recognised degree qualification at Oxford Brookes University.

It is the perfect way to enhance your CAT Qualification and it will provide a valuable boost to your CV and broaden your skills set - something employers will really appreciate.

  • CAT exemption for SPM scorer

In 2008, The Ministry of Education (MOE) officially announced that students who scored 1A and 2A in' Principles of Accounting in the recent SPM examinations are entitled for exemption for CAT (Certified Accounting Technician) paper.

  • Those without an accounting background can take CAT

CAT is foundation Programme for ACCA Professional Qualification. The programme is developed to provide basic foundation in accountancy, even for those without the benefits of accounting background.
