| MCKL Students Place Top In The World For Mathematics And Physics |

For more than 26 years, Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) has been successfully preparing young adults for higher education and life through its holistic brand of education. Its students have benefited from a well-balanced curriculum of academic studies and extra-curricular activities, and many have gained admission to prestigious universities around the world.
The results of the June 2009 Edexcel A-level exams present yet another example of MCKL’s long tradition of excellence in quality education. In addition to 26 students scoring at least 3As, two of MCKL’s top achievers were also recognized as top scorers in the world in Physics and Mathematics.
In addition to his straight As in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, Jonathan Chew Chia Wei was one of only seven candidates with perfect scores of 600/600 in Physics. He was also the MCKL top student for both Physics and Chemistry in the June 2009 examinations.
Jonathan studied at SMK Sri Sempurna, Kuala Lumpur, and obtained 13As in the 2008 SPM examinations. He received a full scholarship to do his A-Levels at MCKL following his participation and win in the 10th National Bible Knowledge Quiz in late 2007.
Jonathan’s lecturers attribute his success to his diligence and perseverance. Jonathan is known for his pleasant personality, and is a student who is highly motivated and exudes confidence in all he does.

Jonathan applied to several local and international universities to study medicine, but had his heart set on International Medical University, Malaysia. Jonathan began his classes on August 24, 2009.
This success was echoed by fellow student Ding Zu Ning, who scored As in Accounts, Economics and Mathematics. She was one of only six candidates worldwide to score a perfect 600/600 in Mathematics. Zu Ning was also the MCKL top student for both Mathematics and Accounting in the June 2009 examinations.
Zu Ning was a SMJK Ave Maria Convent, Ipoh, student who scored 11As in the 2008 SPM examinations. She came to MCKL in January 2008 on a full scholarship to study A-Levels.
Zu Ning has always been very active in clubs, sports and competitions since her schooling years, and continued her involvement in campus and community activities throughout her time at MCKL.
One aspect of MCKL Zu Ning truly appreciated was the small size of the college. The small class sizes at MCKL enable lecturers and staff to provide its students with personalized attention and motivate each student individually to achieve their potential and discover their unique talents.
“I admit being doubtful about the quality of an MCKL education initially because most of my friends had never heard of it. However, looking back on my one and a half years here, I can say its excellence belies its small building and small student population. My lecturers were a wonderful bunch who bonded well with us students, and Datin has been a great help in university applications.”
A small population also means everyone knows everyone else. Friendships are formed fast and students give each other the support and drive to excel academically and in life.
“The strong CF is a unique feature of MCKL,” shared Zu Ning. “My college experience would not have been as colourful if I had not been a part of the CF. I hope those bonds of friendship formed through camp and other CF activities will last the test of time.”
Zu Ning has received offers from City University in UK, and Drake University in USA with the Drake Presidential Scholarship, to study Actuarial Science. She has not accepted any offers yet.
